The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has chosen five startups to help address the persistent threat of ransomware attacks.
In response to a global wave of increasingly frequent and sophisticated ransomware attacks throughout 2021, the NCSC and start-up incubator Plexal put out a call to the private sector in January 2022 for companies working on new ideas and technologies to take part in their joint NCSC for Start-ups initiative.
The NCSC – which is part of UK signals intelligence agency GCHQ – said at the time it was keen to hear from start-ups that: think they can provide more accessible and low-cost forms of protection and mitigation; are working on secure backups or other technologies that can minimise the impact of a ransomware attack, should one occur.
